INITIATIVE SERVICES
Unmatched Record in the Biggest Contests
Consensus Communications is the premier Initiative and Referendum
firm in Florida. Consensus Communications principals have consulted for
more successful Florida initiative and referendum campaigns
than any other firm or consultant. These campaigns include:
2002 – Smoke Free for Health
Successfully Passed 71% - 29%
Consensus Communications served as the primary campaign strategist for
the Smoke-Free for Health campaign. Its success made Florida the first
state in American to prohibit smoking in all restaurants and other indoor
workplaces by a statewide vote of the people.
2000 Floridians for 21st Century Travel
Successfully Passed 53% - 47%
Consensus Communications led the campaign in support of the Florida Bullet
Train Amendment the first statewide ballot initiative in America
to mandate the construction of a state-of-the-art ground transportation
system.
1998 Citizens for Budget Fairness
Successfully Knocked off Ballot
Consensus Communications created a coalition to oppose an initiative funded
with over $1 million in Teachers union money. With a limited budget,
Consensus fought and successfully removed the issue from the ballot.
1996 - Citizens to Save Jobs and Stop Unfair Taxes
Successfully Defeated 54%-46%
Consensus Communications was hired by Florida's sugar industry to run
the committee which successfully defeated Amendment 4, the proposed tax
on Florida Sugar.
1994 - No Casinos, Inc.
Successfully Defeated 62%-38%
The No Casinos, Inc. organization opposed the euphemistically titled "Limited
Casinos" proposal. Since No Casinos was outspent by a margin of 10
to 1, well executed earned media and highly targeted paid media strategies
were developed and implemented.
1994 - Save Our Sealife
Successfully Passed 72% -28%
The Save our Sealife campaign known as "Ban the Nets" prohibited
the use of gill and entangling nets in Florida waters, as well as the
use of other large nets in nearshore waters.
Save Our Sealife is the only initiative in Florida history to qualify
for the ballot without the use of paid petition gatherers.
1992 - Citizens for Limited Political Terms
Successfully Passed 77% - 23%
The term limits campaign known as "Eight is Enough" limited
state and federal officeholders to eight consecutive years in office.
