John Sowinski Receives Professional Achievement Award From University
of Central Florida
October 25, 2001, ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- John Sowinski, a partner with Consensus
Communications, received the University of Central Florida Alumni Association’s
Professional Achievement Award for the College of Health and Public Affairs
during the Association’s annual Black and Gold Gala.
Sowinski is a veteran of numerous statewide political, issue and corporate
campaigns and is regarded as the premier expert on issue politics and
referendum campaigns in Florida. He has accomplished a perfect 5-0 record
in statewide ballot issues. No other person has led more Florida ballot
initiative campaigns in Florida.
Sowinski has served as Governmental Affairs Specialist for the Orlando
Chamber of Commerce and on the staff of Orlando Mayor Bill Frederick,
where he held the position of Senior Aide to Chief Administrator, Bob
Haven. Before working in the Mayor’s office, he was the Executive
Director and chief lobbyist for the Florida Student Association.
Sowinski served on the Transition Team of Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood, and
is a member of the Legislative Relations Committee of the University of
Central Florida Alumni Association. He has been published in Campaigns
& Election magazine.
Sowinski is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he
was Student Body President in 1984/1985. He earned his Bachelor’s
degree in Public Administration.
