In April, Roy Reid, APR, CPRC, addressed physician practice administrators and nurses as part of Health Central Hospital’s InfoNet series. Reid, a veteran of the healthcare industry, discussed the need for physician practices to grow, maintain and protect their practices in the face of low insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid reimbursements and a sluggish economy. The key, Reid explained in his presentation Strengthening the Patient Experience through Loyalty and Trust, is vigilant attention to every step of the patient’s interaction with the practice. “From the moment the patient visits the doctor’s website, to the call to schedule an appointment and through the office visit and any follow-up, the patient is evaluating the practice and its treatment of him or her.” Reid advocates that better relationships produce better results. “By focusing attention on the experience patients have and the resulting emotions, physician practices can begin to earn the patient’s trust and establish the belief that the physician and staff provide excellent care and service. “Trust is the currency of today’s economy,” said Reid. “There are no shortcuts; it must be earned.” Reid is the author and creator of Outrageous Trust®, a program to help leaders and organizations improve relationships through a more intentional effort in building trust.
